PTSD & Anxiety Disorder Lawyers
What is PTSD?
PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) is when a person has experienced or witnessed a very intense and traumatic event that leads to an anxiety disorder. A person can start to show symptoms of PTSD immediately after an event or even years later. Events can occur years later that remind a person of the initially traumatic event and cause flashbacks.
For example, a firefighter could have witnessed the death of a fellow firefighter. This is a very traumatic death or injury that can lead to anxiety and even physically manifest itself. If an event occurred during the course of employment, the employee may be able to obtain workers’ compensation benefits for PTSD. However, there almost always must be some physical injury in conjunction with the mental condition. The exception is if the situation was so traumatic that it is considered severe and shocking.
